2011 Recap for the One2TriRacing Team
Well, 2011 is in the books! The One2TriRacing team proved to be an elite team in the SouthEast region. Where to start?
Tom
O'Donnell put together an impressive PR for the marathon distance at
Myrtle Beach Marathon with a time of 3:19.03. He also qualified for
Long Course Triathlon Worlds in the 40-44 age group.
Jim Kunevicius went 10:10 at the extremely hilly Ironman of Lake
Placid, which was good enough for an astonishing 14th place in his Age
Group.
The Women of the team represented extremely well. Mo Campbell had a PR in the Marathon (2:59:22), the 10k (38:24), and the 5k (18:18). Coming off a marathon victory at the end of 2010, Danielle Crockford
had her goal on winning the Run For Your Life Grand Prix series- and
she did just that! She also won the sprint triahtlon Tri the Abby.
Lastly, Nicole Gross competed at the 5150 DC Triathlon where she was the 7th overall elite amateur female, and qualified for 5150 HyVee
Championships. At Tri Latta she came in second overall where the women's
field was stacked!
Greg Shore competed in 5 of the NC Triathlon Series where he went 4
for 5 on winning his age group, 2 top 10's overall and 1 top 5, which
was good enough to get him a 1st place overall in the series (20-24 age
group). Keith Mrocheck Won the CRC 9mile Trail Race in January and
posted a 2:57 marathon at Myrtle Beach.
Tom Patch completed 5 ultras and did 4 marathons in 5 weeks!!! He also had a PR at NYC of 3:23.54. While
Joey Church had the injury bug most of the year he still managed to PR
in the 10k(37.46) and won the Sampson County Super Sprint Triathlon.
Chad Crockford showed off his running legs with an impressive marathon PR at the Boston Marathon (2:47.07) and a 10k PR of 34:50- Thats fast! He also came in Second overall in the Run For Your Life Grand Prix series. Michael Starkey posted a 9:24 Ironman at Arizona which put him at 9th place for his Age Group! He also won the 30-34 age group at Long Course Triathlon Nationals! Which means he is the National Champion in that distance for the 30-34 age group.

Jim Kunevicious shows up strong to IM Lake Placid
One2Tri Racing's Jim Kunevicious completed IM Lake Placid this weekend in stellar fashion. The temperatures were warm, the water was warm and Jim was on FIRE! The day prior to the race, IM race officials announced that the water was 77 degrees. The Ironman Corporation's policy on wet suits is as follows:
Wet suits are permitted if the water temperature is up to (and including) 76.1 degrees or colder.
Wet suits will be prohibited in water temperatures greater than 83.8 degrees.
Athletes who choose to wear a wet suit in water temperatures between 76.1 and 83.8 degrees, will not be eligible for awards, including World Championship slots.
Jim opted to wear his wet suit due to the still chilly temperatures of the water. Jim tackled the 2.4 mile swim in 1:05:20 or 1:41 / 100 meters. Jim exited the water and embarked on the long trek to T1. After 6 min, Jim started his 112 mile journey through the hills of Lake Placid. 5:28:53 later (20.43 mph) Jim rolled into T2, despite being assessed a 4:00 minute drafting penalty. In 2 quick minutes, Jim was 26.2 miles from a solid race. He turned in a 3:28 marathon (7:58 / mile) and crossed the line in a sold 10:10:50.
Jim took a 15th place age group position (35-39) out of nearly 400 and 63rd overall! The One2Tri Racing team congratulates Jim for an impressive performance on a very tough course! Check back for photos soon!

Stumpy Creek Olympic
One2Tri Racing was all around racing today and made a huge showing at the Stumpy Creek Olympic. Joey Church, Kim Eagens, Jim Kunevicious and Tom O'Donnell took on the 1500 meter swim, 27 mile bike and 10k run, while Michael Starkey, Tom Patch and Nicole Gross also competed in the event, as members of various relay teams.
Congratulations to Joey and Kim who both earned 1st place age group positions, but were both unfortunately assessed 2:00 min penalties for non-visible run numbers at the finish line, thus were both bumped down the 2nd place age group places. Joey finished in 2:19:44 (2:21:44 official penalty time) and ran a solid 39:20 10k (6:19/mile pace) on a very hilly course. Kim turned in the 4th fastest female bike split with only 22 seconds seperating 4th and 2nd (who happens to be a pro triathlete!) riding a 1:12:43 (22.3mph) and a total time of 2:35:25 (2:27:25 official penalty time).
Congratulations to Jim Kunevicius who raced his final race in prep for IM Lake Placid next weekend. Jim posted a 3rd place age group place with a 2:23:52 and also ran a solid run on a hilly course with a 39:14 (6:18/mile pace)! Tom O'Donnell also had a solid day turning in a 2:35:07. Nicole Gross and Tom Patch dominated their swim and run legs of the One2Tri Racing relay. Nicole posted a strong 26:17 swim (1:36/100 meters) and Tom ran a solid 10k time of 44:32 (7:10/mile pace) for the first place mixed gender relay team (by nearly 10 minutes)! Michael Starkey biked a blazing fast 1:07:46 (23.9 mph) for his relay team who took 1st place in the all male relay team division (by over 5 minutes!)

Marathons and Bike Races!!
This weekend was exciting for the One2Tri Racing squad! Tom Finished 10th in his age group with a 4:06 total time, despite suffering cramps at mile 26. Most importantly, Tom PR'd his previous time in this race by 17 minutes!!
Kim Eagens spent her weekend on the bike racing circuit at the Piedmont Omnium Time Trial and Road Race in Lexington, NC. Friday's nights time trail featured a 14.6 mile course which Kim completed in :35:23 (25 mph) and took 1st place for the Cat 3/4 female racers. Kim finished just :12 seconds off the winner of the Cat 1/2 race. On Sunday, Kim took to true bike racing in the 38.4 mile road race. Kim had a very solid day of racing and came across the final sprint in 7th overall! Look out for Kim as she continues to work on her racing tactics for the 2012 cycling season!

Firecracker 5k Fabulous 4th Metric Century...
Few members of the One2Tri Racing Team opted to hit the roads this weekend despite the holiday.
Chad Crockford claimed his first 5k victory of the year despite tons of top 3 finishes at the Firecracker 5k and blew the competition out of the water by over a minute! Chad turned in an incredible 16:44 (5:23/mile pace) for a 1st place overall finish!! Congrats to Chad.
Kim Eagens took to the mountains of NC and tackled the Fabulous Fourth Metric Century bike ride - a challenging course that featured over 7,800' of climbing in just 68-miles of road. Despite a flat at mile 8, Kim turned in a strong time of 3:29:48 (19.5 mph). Look for Kim as she tries her hand at bike racing this weekend at the Piedmont Omnium time trial and road race.
The rest of the One2Tri Racing team enjoyed the long 4th of July holiday weekend and spent their time training for upcoming local and not-so-local events - Grandfather Mountain Marathon, Stumpy Creek Olympic and Sprint, Ironman Muncie 70.3, Ironman Placid and many many more! Happy 4th of July from the One2Tri Racing squad.

Summer Breeze 5k, DC 5150 and Bandits Challenge Success!
This past weekend was a very busy weekend for One2Tri Racing, who could be spotted racing locally, and along the eastern seaboard.
Coach Nicole took on the DC 5150 (Ironman's new International distance racing series) in the women's Elite category. Nicole placed 8th in her division with a 2:20:56 and earned a spot to the Hy-Vee Triathlon later year.
Joey Church took on the notoriously challenging Bandits race hosted by Setup events in Wilkesboro, NC and also came home with an 8th place overall position and a 1st place age group. Joey turned in solid times in all three disciplines.
Team Crockford continues to dominate the Grand Prix series race after race. The summer Breeze 5k was race #6 of 11 this year for the duo and Danielle took home a 2nd place female position with a 19:14 (6:12/mile pace). Chad turned in a season's best 16:44 (5:23/mile pace) for a 4th place overall position - a tribute to how stiff the competition is in the series! Currently Danielle is in 1st place for the females in the GPX series with her eyes on a three-peat in 2011 and Chad is a top 3 contender for the men!

Black Mountain Ultra
Congrats to One2Tri Racing teammates Tom Patch and Mo Campbell for completing the Black Mountain Ultra Marathon this past weekend!
Tom Patch managed 65.1 miles in just over 22 hours despite a super hot Saturday!! Mo Campbell, running in her first ultra, ran the 12-hour option and completed 50 miles – her first consecutive mileage over marathon distance ever. Mo came in 4th overall female for the 12 hour race!! Mo's goal was 40 miles, so clearly she had yet another great race.
Tom and Mo would like to thank Michael Beacham who was a phenomenal teammate and friend during the day and came in HUGE by bringing them food about 7 hours into the race. Given that the food at the aid stations was pretty sparse, Tom and Mo would have have been in trouble without him!!
A big congrats for a great weekend for Tom and Mo and a huge thank you to Michael!

The two enjoyed several pints thereafter to celebrate their strong finish, all the while contributing to a great cause.
Tom Patch completed the River Bound Race Series 10k trail run at the White Water Center. Tom PR'd this years race by well over 3 minutes and came across the line in 50:45 (8:11/mile) for a 4th place age group place! Congrats to Tom!
A busy weekend for the One2Tri Racing team and we have no doubts the rest of the summer will prove to be the same! Check back for photos!!
Kim Eagens, Jim Kunevicious and Tom O'Donnell headed to Kings Mountain, NC to compete in the notorious Over The Mountain triathlon hosted by Setup Events (1500 meter swim / 45k bike / 10k run). In addition to being 5k longer than the typical Olympic distance bike leg, the events' name is no coincidence; the new 2011 run course didn't fall short of "over the mountain" either.
Kim Eagens posted solid results for One2Tri with a 1st place age group and a 5th place overall female against some pretty stiff local competition. Kim crossed the line in 2:40:36 and turned in the 3rd fastest female bike split of the day (1st in age group) with a 1:22:21 (20.1 mph).
Jim Kunevicius nabbed a 3rd place age group place with a solid 2:36:26 on what was intended to be a "training day". Jim came home with the 10th fastest male run split of the day (of 198!) with a speedy 40:54 (6:34/mile) after a pretty "vicious" bike course. Pun intended.
Tom O'Donnell, despite working 192 hours a week for the past 6 months, came in with a 2:42:24 for a 7th place finish in a very competitive age group field. Overall, a very strong day for Tom in all three disciplines. Look for both Tom and Jim in the coming months as they gear up for IM USA - Lake Placid in July.
Danielle and Chad celebrating post 5k |
Later that day, Chad and Joey Church, also participated in the Copper Classic 1k to raise awareness for Pints for Prostates, a local charitable organization committed to fighting prostate cancer. Joey came in to the 0.568-mile run with tremendous pressure as the defending champion, and took a solid 3rd place this year, just behind Chad in 2nd. The two enjoyed several pints thereafter to celebrate their strong finish, all the while contributing to a great cause.

One2Tri Racing Revs it up at Rev3 Knoxville!
One2Tri Racing teammates traveled to Knoxville, TN - home of Coach Nicole's alma matter, the University of Tennessee Lady Vols, to race in the 2nd annual Rev3 Olympic and Half Iron distance races. Boy did Jim and Nicole show up to race!
Jim Kunevicius competed with some of the best pros in the world in the 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run. Jim nagged an 8th age group slot by picking off 27 people in his age group on the bike and the run alone! Despite a 4:00 penalty, Jim rolled in with a 5:13 total time and a 35th overall place. An successful race for Jim but be on the lookout look for an even stronger second half of the season for Jim as he gears up for IM Lake Placid - a course very well suited for strong cyclists like himself!
Kudos also go out to Coach Nicole who took a 3rd place age group and a 7th place overall amateur with an outstanding 2:26 total time on the Olympic distance race (0.9 mile swim / 24.8 mile bike and 10k run)! Per usual, Nicole posted the #1 swim time in her division with a 23:47 (1:39 per 100 meter pace!), and posted very solid bike and run times.
Congrats to both Jim and Nicole for an awesome weekend of racing!

White Lake Success for One2Tri Racing
Greg Shore offers his teammate Michael support at the While Lake Half |
Luckily for Michael, he’s a super strong cyclist and runner and turned in some amazing results, yet again on the duathlon course at White Lake . Michael turned in a 2:22:27 bike split (23.6 mph - 21st overall) and a 1:25.52 run split (6:33/mile pace - 5th overall) for a total time of 3:50:42 for a 1st place age group and 9th place overall (of 367)!
Michael grabs a 1st place age group spot on the podium! |
Congrats to Michael for another phenomenal “half iron distance” duathlon!
Kim Eagens and Greg Shore took on the more “reasonable” distance at the White Lake Sprint this past Sunday – swim and all! Kim and Greg posted solid times despite a stacked field of competition!
Kim Eagens turned came home with a 2nd place age group spot and an 11th place overall (of 214) with a 1:18:01 posting the 1st fastest bike and run split in her age group with a 37:59 (22.2 mph) and a 21:13 5k (6:50/mile pace).

Another strong weekend for One2Tri Racing
This weekend proved to be another strong weekend of racing for the team - though it had its up and its downs. Where to begin?! We'll go in order of distance for this week.
To start us off, Joey Church took on the notorious St. Croix IM 70.3 on Saturday and boy did the course live up to its name. Despite a few minor glitches for Joey including head-butting a turtle mid-swim, nearly "endo-ing" over his aero bars 3 miles into the bike course resulting in a long road side repair, and a blazing hot and humid run course, Joey completed the 70.3 and still completed it well! Joey knocked out a 5:24:43 for a solid 17th age group place despite a very challenging day on the course. Congratulations Joey and way to hang tough!!
Secondly, Greg Shore completed the Huntersville Sprint (500m pool swim, 12 mile bike, 5k run) in just over 1:03 for a 10th place overall finish and a 1st place age group! Greg also posted the 3rd fastest run split of the day.
Two of our resident runners participated triathlon and duathlon style this weekend! Tom Patch completed both the University City Duathlon (5k run, 19k bike, 3k run) and, along with Mo Campbell, the Buck Hurley Triathlon Challenge (300 pool swim, 10 mile bike, 5k run). Tom took a 2st place age group spot (and missed 1st by 12/100ths of a second!) at the duathlon with a total time of 1:17:53 and also took a 3rd place age group position at Buck Hurley with a 1:09:38. Mo Campbell, in her first triathlon, went 1:12:57 for a 1st place age group and posted the course record run split (male and female included) with a 19:13! Future competetive triathletes in the making? Yes!!
Lastly, our well-known elite runners, Chad and Danielle Crockford, participated in the CPCC Skyline 5k. Danielle took a 2nd place overall finish with a 18:48 (6:03/mile pace) and Chad turned in a 16:49 (5:25/mile pace) for an 8th place overall (musta been a pretty stacked mens field if a sub 17 minute 5k gets you 8th) and a 1st place age group!
CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who posted pretty amazing results this weekend! Check back to see what next week has in store as May race season heats up.

One2Tri Racing Represents in Boston!
A huge congratulations goes out to Danielle and Chad Crockford, Kim Eagens and Tom Patch for their 2011 Boston Marathon finishes - a second for Tom!! Each athlete has a very memorable day under their belt and a lot to be proud of.
Danielle and Chad Crockford continue to impress. Chad turned in a 6+ minute PR and a 428th overall finish (out of 28,000+ runners) with a swift 2:47:07 (6:23/mile pace)! As bib # 1063, Chad finished nearly 600 positions higher than his qualifying corral - quite an impressive feat at such a competitive event.
Danielle ran a solid race despite some recent foot pain and crossed the line on Boylston in 3:14:49 (7:26/mile pace). Danielle finished 381st out of the females and has a lot to be proud of!
Kim Eagens was on pace for a strong 3:25 goal finish until a mishap with a volunteer led to a strain (hopefully not a tear) in her right quad muscle. Kim muscled through the remainder of the race and turned in a 3:52 marathon despite her intense pain. Kim hopes to take revenge on Boston sometime around 2020. :)
Tom Patch can hold his head high crossing the line for a Boston PR by nearly 10 minutes with a commendable 3:33:12 (8:08/pace). Given his bib number of #10,067, his 8,555 finishing place is impressive!

New Orleans 70.3 Cancels the Swim....
2011 has been filled with crazy weather so far and this past weekend did not prove any different. Heavy winds on Lake Pontchartrain forced the swim portion of the Ironman 70.3 New Orleans leaving One2Tri teammates Michael Starkey and Jim Kunevicious to race the event duathlon style!
Being such strong cyclists and runners, the cancellation of the swim helped Michael Starkey earn a 10th place 30-34 age group finish with a remarkable 3:51:15. Michael biked the 56-mile bike course in 2:24:05 (23.32 mph) and ran the 13.1 miles in 1:25:22 (6:30/mile pace)!! A very strong day for Michael.
Jim Kunevicious also turned in impressive times for a 13th age group (35-39) place with a 4:01:21. Jim rolled through the 56 mile bike ride in 2:29:18 (22.51 mph) and turned in a 1:29:50 half marathon (6:51/mile pace).
Overall, a very impressive showing from One2Tri Racing at IM New Orleans 70.3! Congrats guys!
